Currency in Century D is still a monetary system backed by either a State sanctioned central Bank or in some cases, a Megacorporate sponsored financial entity. Regardless of where the authority behind the money comes from, currency is wholly electronic and transferable through data systems. Among the Inner Worlds (those worlds from Merr to Djoon) There are multiple currencies in exchange originating from the Polities of the Primeworlds. Because Communications between planets is relatively short (between 23 and 45 minutes from Merr to Djoon depending on where the planets are realitive to one another), currency exchanges are mostly seamless and invisible.
The Galian League enforces a single, exclusive currency among it’s Primeworlds and Colonies. The League Currency Unit (LCU), sometimes called a “Lucy” or “Gal” is the only legal tender sanctioned. Other currencies must be exchanged first at a League reserve bank, before it can be used. Because the Moot meets on Io, the LCU is commonly accepted among the Inner Worlds and many frontier colonies orbiting Hayloah.
At the edges of the Frontier, where Communications between worlds takes hours, and transport will spend months in transit (even at TranShip speeds), the most commonly used currency is issued by Universal Funding on behalf of the Guild Empire. Guild Credits or GuildCredhas the Legal weight of the Moot behind it (Resolution #4144-GZ310T), and is thus legal tender that can be used for commerce, and exchanged at current currency rates. Outside of barter (which is common within the Rimn’tor), GuildCred is the most stable means of buying or selling among the Frontier Colonies orbiting Ra’anous and Iapton.
